The second Eudunda Show and Shine was held on April 6th 2024 in perfect autumn weather. Over 160 cars, motorcycles, and trucks assembled at the beautiful Eudunda Sporting complex and oval.
This years event brought interstate entrants from as far as Mildura and Broken Hill. One of the stars of the show was the start up of a 1000hp Supercharged LC Torana.
As one walked around marvelling at each of the exhibits, all facinating for various reasons, rarity, originality, beautiful restorations, spectacular modifications the amount of detail that some displays went to in an effort to create a story has to be admired.
One such entry was that of a 1955 Ponitac by Grant & Kat Koidos. Their story was that of the car and themselves at the ‘Drive In Theatre’. As you approached the car you realise that they have an authentic ‘drive in’ speaker hanging on the passenger window, and it is playing music. In the window behind is a uniform as worn by hostesses at a ‘Drive In’. The boot has an array of various items ranging from photos of the car in it’s original condition, the Pontiac owners guide, a beautiful full working steel model of the car rotating on a mirrored turntable, and a photo frame showing video and photos of the original TV adverts and the car being restored. To top of the ‘Drive In’ story on the drivers side is a servery tray of various items including a burger and icecream sweets. The couple know the car’s story of how it came to Australia in 2006, imported into Queensland from Missouri USA, where it was in poor condition. It was restored in QLD that year and eventually Grant & Kat purchased it in South Austrlai a year ago. It is powered by a 350 Chev engine and the car is apparently the only one of it’s type in South Australia.
The attention to detail and the story line was excellent and it is no wonder that we were to see Grant & Kat Koidos up at the awards, winning the Pre 1950s award for their 1955 Ponitac.
Certainly if you wanted to view the entries closely in every detail, you would be busy for the whole day, and why not? You get great value for the entry fee.
Hundreds of people enjoyed looking at the many millions of dollars worth of classic cars, bikes and trucks as well the many stalls and displays that were set up on the oval.
The event is organised by a small group of local car enthusiasts with the intention of creating a venue in which to attract like-minded people together at the beautiful oval and grounds at Eudunda and to raise funds for the Variety Children’s Charity.
